Dear friends and colleagues,

It is an enormous pleasure to announce that the Brazilian and Argentinean chapters of the International Neuromodulation Society – INS are organizing the I Joint Meeting Brazil/Argentina on Neuromodulation & II International Joint Meeting on Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, which will be held in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, on November 17–20, 2010, at Castro’s Park Hotel. Simultaneously, we will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of Instituto de Neurologia de Goiânia, undoubtedly one of the most important neurosurgical institutions of Latin America. The first version of the International Joint Meeting on Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, held at Rio Quente Resorts, Goiás State, in May 2007, was a stupendous meeting, according to all its attendants, and we can assure you that this second version will also be.

Goiânia, capital of Goiás State, located in the Midwestern Region of the country, 200 km from Brasília, DF and 900 km north São Paulo, has 1.5 million inhabitants and is a very green, clean, safe, and beautiful city. Besides, here are the most beautiful women of Brazil! Please, plan to arrive on Nov 16 and to leave whenever you wish, but preferably not earlier than Nov 20 in the afternoon. Tours to worth seeing cities around are being organized by the executive secretariat. On November, the weather is kind of hot (around 30°C) and dry. Considering the weather, ties and suits will be officially prohibited during all scientific sessions of the Meeting. Informality is strongly recommended!

Fifteen speakers from North America, Europe, and Asia have already confirmed their presence, and we are still waiting for other confirmations. The faculty is simply outstanding. Dear friends, thank you so much for accepting our invitation.

The meeting will last three days. The working time will extend from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 pm to 18:10. The scientific program will be made up of four main parts: oral presentations (a maximum of 20 abstracts will be selected for presentation and there will be no poster session); conferences, dedicated, almost exclusively, to the most recent advances and future perspectives in Neuromodulation; and "spicy" and PROS and CONS sessions, which will deal with controversial matters of the official topics of the meeting.

On the morning of the first day there will be a pre-congress course on Microelectrode Recording. Although free of charge, registration to attend it is required, since the number of places is limited.

Portuguese, Spanish, and English will be the official languages of the meeting. Simultaneous translation will be available at all times and, for your convenience, all receptionists will be trilingual.

This brochure will be the only one to be released before the Meeting. Until then, you will be able to follow the meeting organization and developments through our web site: http://www.scripteventos.net/recobran2010. The meeting web site was built so as to make your life easier. There you can make the registration, send the abstracts, and book the hotel. It is updated on a daily basis.

Ronald Tasker is undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable and renowned functional neurosurgeons of the world. His contributions to the field were innumerable. Currently retired, this 82-year-old neurosurgeon is still as bright as before. But it is not only that. He is also a fabulous human being, a person with so many qualities and a pure soul. A true example for everyone. These are only some of the reasons that led us to the decision of establishing the Ronald Tasker Award, to be given to the author of the best oral presentation of the International Joint Meeting on Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. The recipient of this Award should fully understand the great glory it means. We urge you all to come to this unforgettable meeting and we are certain that it will leave a lasting impression.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Goiânia in November.

Warmest regards,
